The News Coming From Pokémon Direct This Morning

Pokémon Direct, which occurred this morning at 10 AM ET, wasn’t anything to get crazy about. It was basically an announcement used to preclude E3. Fans were hopeful that Pokémon Stars would be made official during this announcement, as well as wanting Pokémon Snap to come to the Nintendo Switch. Both of these wishes were not granted. Instead, what fans can expect in the near future can be viewed in the full event below. Scroll to 30:17 to get to the actual video, otherwise, you’ll be staring at that same screen for awhile.

The event was only a brief 8 minutes. In that time, fans were given these snippets of information about what’s to come for Nintendo:

  1. Pokkén Tournament DX is coming to the Nintendo Switch on September 22.
  2. Previously Game Boy titles, Pokémon Gold and Silver are coming to the Nintendo 3DS.
  3. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are coming to Nintendo 3DS.

There’s already some serious backlash in regards to this announcement, as many fans of the franchise did not want a new Pokkén Tournament game.

Clearly, people are having some issues with this announcement. Either way,  fans of the first installment of Pokkén Tournament for the Wii U can expect to see five new Pokémon: Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk, and Decidueye for a total of 21 playable Pokémon. Pokkén Tournament DX will also feature a 3v3 battle mode and online ranked matches. In the trailer for the game, as seen in the video above, Pokkén Tournament DX is aimed to be “Nintendo Switch game.” What this means is that it’s meant to be played with people, and Nintendo isn’t afraid to advertise that like they did with the release of the Switch.

Fans may be upset at this recent news, but most are forgetting that Nintendo still has E3 next Tuesday at 12 PM ET. Although it’s been confirmed that their conference will only be 30 minutes long, there’s bound to be some news that fans were hoping to hear from Pokémon Direct this morning. Nintendo doesn’t usually announce a Pokémon game during E3, but it could be that they are planning a Poké-surprise. Stay tuned for E3 next week to find out.
