The yelling, I remember the yelling. Not out of anger, alright sometimes anger. Mostly out of triumph and pure happiness. Some may have yelled out of pain. No, I’m not describing a debate or a sporting event (well sort of). Instead, I’m talking about the Wii. The Nintendo console that feels so recent and yet so long ago. With it came Wii Sports, a title that brings about intense feelings. Nothing felt sweeter than knocking out a sibling or two in Wii Boxing, or bowling a perfect game while sitting down. It’s unlikely that a video game has brought on more screaming, injuries, and damage than any before or after it.

Nintendo Wii’s Time Has Run Out

Which brings me to the main point. Nintendo will stop repairing Wii Consoles in March. Ranked as the number six best selling console of all time with 101.63 million units sold, it seems the final nail in the coffin for the fourteen-year-old now retro console is here. Two Nintendo console generations removed, it is likely the right time to lay the superstar to rest (please don’t actually bury the thing).

Nintendo will not take on any new Wii units in need of repairs starting March 31st. The company sites difficulties in obtaining parts for the old units. This doesn’t come as a surprise; it’s not easy to ask to receive fifteen-year-old parts for any electronics. Most of all, it’s likely not profitable. For those wondering, this repair stop does apply to accessories, yes those easy to destroy Wii remotes will no longer be safe. In other words, be careful swinging those Wii bowling balls folks, straps to wrist!

Overall it had a good run. One has to wonder, in the long run, will this drive up the value of the Wii and the associated accessories? Tell us what you think in the comments below, does this affect you or anyone you know? Or like the 2006 console, is it merely old news?
